How to Get Rid of Wasps?

Wasps are one of the most dangerous stinging insects that you do not want to have near you or your family. While there are several thousands of wasps’ species around the world, only nine of them are capable of building a nest. The one that is most likely to create a problem for you and your family includes Paper Wasps, Yellow Jackets, and Hornets. In this article, our experts at Elite Pest Control Dublin have made a list of steps you can do to remove a small wasps nest yourself, though in most cases we recommend hiring a professional as it is safer.
How to get rid of wasps
Before we discuss the different ways of getting rid of wasps from around your home, it is important to remember that you should never try to swat them. When you swat at them, it tells them to release pheromones which will trigger other wasps nearby to see you as a threat. And this is not a good sign for your well-being. You do not want wasps to consider you as a threat, or else you will get yourself in big trouble.
Having said that, we have created a few tips to clear wasps from around your home.
1. Insecticidal dust
In case you are trying to get rid of a ground nest, insecticidal dust can be very useful. Try to apply the insecticidal dust on the nest carefully and then leave the area as it is for a couple of days. Let the dust do its work and sit back and relax. If after a few days, you find the nest still active, repeat the same procedure, and check back again.
2. Pesticide Spray
Pesticide spray is another way to get rid of wasps. Look for a pesticide spray in the nearby supermarket. Read the instructions on the can and then perform the process carefully. Having said that, the most common practice is to spray the pesticide in the opening of the wasp nest for about 20 seconds. That is it. If you still find the nest active after a couple of days, repeat the same procedure. Once the wasps' nest is dead, you can get rid of it easily.
3. Use Smoke
If the wasp nest is on the tree or at a nearby place near your home, you can try to make use of smoke to get rid of it. Burn a fire under the nest. The smoke from the fire will suffocate them and will force them to leave the nest. Once the wasps are gone you can knock down the nest. However, you have to be careful in doing so.
4. Dunk the nest in water
This method is useful when the nest is aerial. Put a bucket full of water under the nest and then try to put the nest completely inside a cloth bag. However, be careful and make sure that there are no holes in the bag. Tightly secure the bag and then cut the nest from the tree branch and dunk it inside the water bucket. Put something heavy on the bucket and leave it for a day. The wasps will be dead by the next morning.
